Skype with John

WAY back in May, my brother John was in Russia.  {I think he reads this blog because he makes fun of it.  Hi John.}  I had told my class that John was there and one of my students was very interested because she was Russian.  She told me that we needed to Skype John so that she could "learn him" Russian.  So, she emailed him and we set it up.  Of course my class loved it.  It is amazing the connections you can make from around the world!

Chicks

For the second year, we hatched chicks at school.  The chicks sit in the incubator for 21 days and that part is not too exciting.  However, when day 21 approaches, it is beyond exciting.  I made David go with me to school two different nights just in case they had hatched.  When they finally stated hatching, I stayed at school way later than I should have just to watch.  There is nothing like it!

This year we had a bit of a "miracle" chick.  Five days after the others have hatched, we heard a cheeping.  We decided not to intervene with getting it out of its shell, because it did not look too good. The cheeping continued and eventually the chick broke out.  After breaking out, he looked like an overcooked baby.  We didn't have much faith that he would survive, but he got better and better by the hour.  It was amazing.  Eventually he was well enough to join his siblings in their new coop.  It was so cool!

{pictures are not in order...I apologize!}

I can not take credit for this picture.  Isn't it great?!

Sarah Barnett...Presenter!

On the 28th I presented at a "big conference" for the first time.  It was such a thrill!  It was the "Illinois Computing Educators" conference.  I taught others how I use my iPads in my classroom literacy block, Daily Five.  It was one of those times that I ended the day knowing that I was exactly where I should be.  I love my job.  It made me excited for what the future can bring!

So, I don't know why this is upside down...but this is my name in the booklet!

Again, big head?!

My info on their app!

Student Teacher

This is "blast from the past" post...

I had an awesome student teacher in the fall semester.  We got along great and she did such a great job with my first graders.  She was so sweet and will be an awesome teacher.  Below are some pictures from her last day!

*These pictures are small and will not go in the order they are probably supposed to go...

Snow Day!

We had a snow day today.  It is very unusual for this area!  We had 8-10 inches predicted snowfall during the day.  Therefore, most schools called snow days because of the potential build up while the kids were at school.  From where I have been sitting it doesn't seem that bad though...or maybe Chicago winter has tainted me!

I have spent today and yesterday (we had off for Pulaski day) working, working, working.  It has been good to catch up, but would be better to find some time to relax.  These two were able to find plenty of time to relax though...

Now I must return myself to my On Demand movie...Katy Perry: Part of Me.  Don't judge...it was half off!

Plus, I booked a trip to MIAMI today for the 27th!!!!!  I can feel the sunshine already!  Sort of...

Love This.

I came across this after the horrific events at Sandy Hook.  I have kept it and look at it from time to time.  I love my job.

100th Day of School

We recently had the 100th day of school.  In the past, we have dressed up to be 100 years old.  I was ready for something new - I always looked so gross in my costume.  I came across something that suggested having a "Royal Celebration"  I instantly knew that we had to do that.  We dressed as Royalty.  Each of my students came with a costume and looked beyond adorable.  We had a fun day!

50th Day of School

For the 50th day of school this year, we decided to celebrate 50's style.  We had a lot of fun educational activities along with bubble gum blowing, soda float making, and taking pictures in a cardboard glittery Cadillac.  Although I can not show you all the pictures from the day, I can show you my outfit.  I love any reason to celebrate!
